Join Kelly Frederick and Elizabeth Bogart at Tosa PT for an Art + Meditation Workshop to celebrate Imbolc (February 1st), the halfway point between winter and spring. The beginning of February is a symbolic time to “plant seeds.” Imbolc literally means “in the belly,” referring to the pregnancy of ewes (female sheep) at this time of year. We’re taking a playful spin on this theme and planting our intentions literally “in the belly” of our very own pocket angels.
What are Pocket Angels? Pocket Angels are totems to help you manifest, create, and imagine. Inspired by the idea of crystals or worry dolls, they all have names and jobs. Ted, for example, keeps you afloat. Rosie helps you hold your pee on long car rides. Blanche only speaks in haiku.
Kelly (the creator of these handmade guides) has dozens of stories about the magical synchronicities behind the scenes while making and naming these angels, as well as the stories she hears from clients when the angels are out in the wild. Elizabeth got her first pocket angel from Kelly under some pretty magical circumstances that she’ll share during the workshop. The hope is that the pocket angels you take home serve as little helpers, lucky charms, and/or guardian angels as you tend to the seeds you plant for this year and beyond. And even more importantly, we hope this playful afternoon reminds you that your imagination is in fact a manifestation tool.
MORE ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE
This time of year is about hope and new beginnings. We want to create space to engage with wonder, whimsy, and (to borrow Kelly’s phrase) use “our imaginations for good.” Kelly will introduce us to a few of her unnamed pocket angels. We’ll begin the day with discussion, laughter and a little theatrics as we name each angel and assign them jobs. Our new pals will watch over us as Elizabeth guides us through a little mindful movement, kundalini meditation, and journaling to prepare our bodies and minds to receive new ideas, clarity, and inspiration. We’ll each pick a mystery pocket angel like we’re drawing an oracle card and use it for inspiration as we craft and write our intentions that we’ll bury in our very own handmade pocket angel. Kelly will show us how to form the angel using clay and she’ll take it home to finish painting it. We’ll close with a group visualization meditation and shares.
Note: You’ll take two pocket angels home. One you’ll take home right away, and the other you’ll pick up later after it has dried. We’ll give you more details about pick-up options during the workshop.

How does art and meditation support intention setting? Sometimes when given the space to set intentions, make wishes, name desires — we can’t access or visualize anything other than the current reality. Being playful, moving the body, singing, laughing, chanting, journaling — wakes up the imagination, puts us in a receptive state to receive inspiration, and invites us to have the audacity to engage with the question, What if?
In short, playing helps us dream bigger. And, it’s time for us all to dream bigger.
